America Needs to Begin the Conversation About Gun Control

Honestly....I am done praying for Orlando, Ferguson, Sandy Hook, Boston, and any other American city that has dealt with gun violence. I am now praying that the American people wake up and figure out that they need to get guns out of their homes and off of their streets.

With every news report I hear of a child shooting their sibling with a gun their parents did not secure properly, with every account of a mass shooting I want to yell, “You idiots, wake up!  There is a solution.  Why aren’t you talking about it?”  How many people have to be killed accidentally or murdered before they decide that someone’s life is more important than someone being allowed to own a gun?

I am shocked by how many people when posting and writing about these tragedies want to ignore the issue of gun control, especially thought leaders, people professing to love God, and people posing as spiritual beings. Guns and killing are not loving, good, or spiritual.

What you allow is what will continue.  Another mass shooting is the appropriate time for outrage, anger, and change.  We tend to think of outrage and anger as negative emotions and we work hard to tamp them down and pretend we aren’t feeling them because it isn’t “good” or “spiritual.”  But that isn’t true.  Outrage and anger are feelings that let us know that what is happening is not right and changes need to be made.  Instead of sending prayers and love, we should be in the streets and letting our voices be heard that we want these guns off of our streets and we want the killings to stop.  We all need to be instruments of love and change.

Instead, we allow the news to report these incidences as “acts of terrorism” and “hate crimes” instead of calling it what it is: the murdering of Americans by an American.  The media is allowed to gloss over the fact that is Americans killing Americans so it somehow becomes more palatable.  We need to shine our love on the media and ask them to tell the truth and start a national conversation on gun control.

It is deplorable that the NRA is allowed to give political donations and set the political agenda. In our culture of bullying, they are among the biggest bullies.  Spreading fear and delusions, the NRA has been given too much power and it is time to let love win.  We need to shine our love on the policies that allow this to continue and ask for them to be changed.  With an election on the horizon, your vote can be a powerful tool for change.  Let your voice be heard by voting with love!

How many times you are willing to send someone love and forgiveness for making the same transgression over and over.  At some point forgiveness must be accompanied by change.  Now is the time for this gun culture to change.  Let’s start the conversation and begin to make the changes necessary so we do not have to mourn another life lost to gun violence.
